A funeral service will be held in Josie's memory at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at St. Josie loved watching football, going to the casino, reading romance novels, shopping, and spending time with family. During her retirement years, she was active in the St. Josie worked at the Domino Sugar Refinery for several years as a sugar packer. Josie was born in Vidalia, La., to the late Charles and Artie Mae Melton on January 13, 1929. Josie is preceded in death by her loving husband, the late Marshall Gowland, and her children, the late Caroll and James Newcomb. Josie is survived by her grandchildren, Allison LeBlanc (Eddie), Crystal Faux (Kenny), and Marshall Thornhill, six great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Josie Ruth Melton Gowland, of Chalmette, passed peacefully on September 25, 2022, in Slidell, La., at the age of 93.
